
As MMA fans were not shocked to see the occasional bleeding nose or cut eyebrow - it's all part and parcel of the sport.
But every now and again we see the occasional bleeder so in that spirit here's a look over 12 of Mixed Martial Art's most brutal blood splattering fights.
Yves Edwards Vs. Joe Stevenson
Joe Stevenson faced Yves Edwards at UFC 61 - Bitter Rivals. Stevenson landed a barrage of elbows opening a huge gash across the top of Yves head. After much bleeding and deliberation the Doctors eventually called a halt to the fight.
Renato "Babalu" Sobral Vs. David Heath
Renato Sobral took on David Heath at UFC 54 - Respect. This is definitely a bloody fight that comes to mind. What's more shocking than the blood however is Babalu refusing to release the Anaconda Choke after Heath taps, putting the fighter to sleep. Babalu was consequently suspended from the UFC.
BJ Penn Vs. Joe Stevenson
From UFC 80, Stevenson was dropped by early by an uppercut and Penn kept on with the pressure eventually landing a brutal elbow opening a nasty gash over Stevenson's eyes. Penn went on to claim the victory and UFC Lightweight Title by rear naked choke.
Matt Roland Vs. Chip Tate
Matt Roland took on Chip Tate at the Legends of fighting Championship 18 - Pole Position. Roland landed an almighty elbow cutting Tate's face right open, and the followed up with an onslaught of punches.
Announcer: "Well, that’s gonna’ require a few stitches!"
KJ Noons Vs. Nick Diaz
EliteXC: Renegade saw KJ Noons open a number of large gashes across Nick Diaz's eyes and nose, it wasn't long before the referee drew an end to this bout.
Ricardo Arona Vs. Kazushi Sakuraba
Ricardo Arona roughs up Sakuraba with several knees, punches, and soccer kicks at Pride - Critical Countdown 2005.
Keith Jardine Vs. Chuck Liddell
Keith Jardine against Chuck Liddell at at UFC 76 - Knockout.
Randy Couture Vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
The headlining fight from UFC 74 - Respect, saw Gabriel Gonzaga spend the best part of 2 1/2 rounds bleeding all over Randy Couture.
Pat Smith Vs. Scott Morris
This video from way, wayback at UFC 2 see's Pat Smith unleash a hellish fury of elbows upon the side of Morris's head. Although there's no immediate blood splattering you can clearly see pieces flying off Morris - blood? pulp? mouth guard?
Jon Koppenhaver Vs. Jared Rollins
The Ultimate Fighter 6 finale's Fight of the Night saw War Machine and J-Roc battle it out in a blood stained octagon.
Sean Sherk Vs. Kenny Florian

Sean Sherk matched up against Kenny Florian at UFC 64 - Unstoppable. The resulting battle definitely went down as one of the bloodiest of all time. Ken Flo managed to cut Sherk open with an elbow, however Sherk managed to battle on eventually winning a five-round decision for the UFC Lightweight belt.
Edwin Dewees Vs. Gideon Ray

This fight from Ultimate Fighter 4 produced so much blood it actually turned Edwin Dewees from a blonde into a redhead by the end. Dewee's managed to battle his way through the match clinching the decision over Gideon Ray.
