This doesn't look good at all, can he come back and fight after an injury like this?

Quote:
Frank Shamrock, in defense of his Strikeforce middleweight championship a week ago, gave fans exactly what they wanted, other than a victory. He stood and went toe-to-toe, blow-for-blow with San Shou champion Cung Le. Unfortunately for him, Shamrock not only lost his title, but the use of his right forearm for the near future.

Blocking several of Le?s powerful kicks with his forearms, Shamrock had to block one too many and ended up suffering a broken right ulna. It was evident near the end of the third round, when Le threw a left head kick that Shamrock obviously had time to put his arm up to block, but instead opted to brace himself and move into the kick. Not the optimum defense for kicks as powerful as Le?s.

The injury required six screws and a metal plate to repair. It will keep him out of action for upwards of eight months, depending on how his body heals up.

He is not deterred though. Shamrock's camp told MMAWeekly.com that he does plan to fight again, although the plate will have to be removed before he can re-enter the ring.

I guess if anyone is capable of coming back from an injury like this it's Frank, but it's definitely not looking good for him.

I guess how long he's out depends on how well his body recovers, there's no doubt in my mind he'll be back, i'd love to see him rematch with Cung and take him to the ground.. but that arm is definitely gonna be a target.

Nah, I don't think Cung would focus on something like that to win. He's not like that. I don't think you quite meant it like that, but I really don't see that being a point of attack.

I can tell you from first hand experience, that is a painful thing to deal with.

Don't know how "Big Timmy" dealt with the pain after Mir snapped his arm, but I'm sure that break must have required a plate and some screws, and that break that Frank got looked pretty nasty as well.

Yeah, good call Rich. I honestly could not bare to go two more rounds like Shammy did, that's insane. What a nasty break, I hope he makes a speedy recovery for Le v. Shamrock 2!

Nah you guys, Shammy clearly had Cung beat. Here's what the former champ told mmaweekly.com:

Quote:
“I had him totally on the stand up. He was never going to make it another round or so. I was slowing him down, I was catching his timing, and I was starting to catch his chin. One of us never would have made it out of the fourth round and I don’t think it was going to be me if my arm didn’t break.”
“I don’t feel a lot when I’m fighting, but when something breaks or cracks, I get a little stabbing pain. I felt that in the first round…I have a really high pain tolerance … but it was really painful. On a scale of 1 to 10, it was like a 15 or so.”
Waaaa..

Yeah Liver, I know what Frank's saying about the pain being a 15 on the scale of pain !

I've snapped a bone before and still have the hardware inside of me.

Every time I go thru the metal scanner at the airport, the hardware sets-off the alarm and security always ask me if I have a weapon. LOL

I still can't imagine how anybody can fight thru a broken bone with the level of pain that sort of injury causes !

Latest news from Frank is that he's gonna try and push to get another fight in before the end of the year.

“They’re going to do another x-ray next week and see how the bone is healing. They say the short estimate is four to six months and the long estimate is six to eight months,” stated the former Strikeforce middleweight champion.

Shamrock stated that a rematch is definitely in his sites, but it’s not yet his top priority. In a perfect world, he has another fight in mind once he heals up.

“I think the next one should be Ken (Shamrock),” he said of a proposed bout with his adoptive brother. It is a bout aptly christened ‘Blood Brothers.’ “The story is in place; the marketing is in place. I think it is a good moment to do the Ken fight, to tell the story.”

Fans can rest assured there will be more ass-kickings and there will be much from Frank Shamrock. This is just the beginning.

The guy must heal like Wolverine or something, i think this could be pushing it just a bit though.
